Iron Horse Breaks Ground on New Rail Transload Terminal in Winnemucca, Nevada, Expanding Rail Infrastructure Across the West

Winnemucca, Nevada – April 23, 2026 – Iron Horse today announced that it has broken ground on its new Winnemucca Rail Transload Terminal in Rose Creek, Humboldt County, Nevada, and construction is now underway. The greenfield terminal is being developed, owned, and operated by Iron Horse.

Located just off Interstate 80 and served directly by Union Pacific on its Nevada Subdivision mainline, the terminal is designed to receive bulk reagents by rail and move them efficiently to regional customers by truck. Planned capabilities include liquid sulfur storage, a quicklime silo, rail and truck scales, and storage track for approximately 400 railcars, along with a dedicated regional trucking fleet. The terminal will support Lithium Americas' Thacker Pass Project as well as other shippers across northern Nevada.

Crews are actively clearing and grading the site, and the project is expected to create approximately 150 construction jobs and approximately 50 permanent operations jobs once the terminal is complete in 2027. Iron Horse has worked closely with the City of Winnemucca, Humboldt County, and the State of Nevada to bring the project to this point.
